Ministers Threaten to Resign to Stop a No-deal Brexit

If Prime Minister Theresa May looks on as UK crashes out of EU, several ministers on the cabinet are ready to walk away. Some have gone as far as giving her until the end of the month to save the situation.

Ministers Threaten to Resign to Stop a No-deal Brexit

The UK is facing uncertainties over its departure from the European Union slated for March 29 as talks to agree a deal has been unfruitful, to say the least. In the light of this, a no-deal Brexit may be on the cards meaning the UK may have to force its way out of the Union.

Major stakeholders in the UK are unhappy about the situation and are demanding that Mrs. May do all she can to avoid a no-deal Brexit. A popular view among the MPs is the postponement of the March 29 deadline. On Wednesday, February 27, the MPs are set to state key Brexit votes, and the issue of the deadline is on the agenda.

A former Attorney General, Dominic Grieve, said he is aware of several ministers, cabinet members inclusive, who are ready to resign if that is the only option left to delay Brexit. Some of these ministers have already written confidential letters to the Prime Minister, explaining their stand regarding the possibility of a disorderly Brexit.

Justice Secretary David Gauke, Work and Pensions Secretary Amber Rudd, Mrs. May’s de facto deputy – David Lidington and Business Secretary Greg Clark are few among the ministers who would walk away rather than go with no-deal Brexit.

Too Much Risk

Former Attorney General Grieve said some members of the government are willing to force the country out EU on the basis of a future that they say they have in plan for the country which he does not agree with.

He expressed his concerns about the insensitivity of the group to the risks that are likely to come with a no-deal Brexit, and this is the reason he will not agree with a crashing out.
