Canada has been on a global spotlight since it set a goal of issuing more than one million new permanent residency status before 2021 runs out.
Media reports contain highlights of the three-year goal, which has made the country outstanding. A CNN report noted that while some Western countries like the US are doing a great job cutting down their immigrant intake by manufacturing stringent rules for immigrants, Canada has created a welcoming atmosphere for them.
New York Times, however, made it clear that the US needs to imitate Canada’s line of action and pursue immigration to promote its economic growth.
Canada has a strong desire to raise its annual immigrant intake level. Ahmed Hussein, the minister for Immigration, Refugees, Citizenship Canada, said that the rising level of International immigration which Canada is experiencing, especially in its Economic Class could help in boosting economic growth, maintaining the labor force and promoting innovation in the country.
Based on the most recent three-year level plan for immigration, the total immigration has been estimated to reach 350,000 new PRs in 2021. This migration level is just about 1% of the entire population of Canada, and the Conference Board of Canada is bent on the fact that the migration level must be achieved by 2030 to make sure Canada has a modest economic and population growth.
Multi-Year (2018 – 2021) immigration levels plan
This year, the economic immigration program is expected to usher in 60% of all the new Permanent Residents coming in. Also, four immigration programs are expected to cater for about 75% of all economic immigration. These include; The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), the Federal Skilled Trades Class, the Canadian Experience Class, and the Federal Skilled worker class. The last three programs are linked to the Express Entry System and have a 2019 target of 81,400 new admissions – the highest so far.
The Express Entry System was brought on board in January 2015 and is open to immigrants who, having considered their ages, skilled work experience, language proficiency, and education, are found to be qualified.
