The tech sector in the UK sparks a lot of envy from other countries in Europe: it has a teeming number of top-rated startups and more funding than any of its contemporaries in Europe. With Brexit on the brink of happening, policy makers, investors, and entrepreneurs are all keen on finding out what the aftermath of Brexit holds for Britain and its access to exceptional talent.
As it is, Germany has caught up with Britain. Note though, that Germany is the only European country that boasts of more software developers than Britain. A report by Atomico, a venture capital company, reveals the figures as 851,000 and 830,500 for Germany and Britain respectively.
Currently, Britain which was formerly leading in intra-European tech talent immigration — albeit slightly — has given way to Germany to measure up with both countries leading the race shoulder to shoulder.
UK still tops the list for tech talents from outside Europe
However, UK still maintained its position as the favorite destination for tech talents from outside Europe. It is worthy of note that although the UK tops the list, it fell by 6% this year. Germany, France, and the Netherlands, on the other hand, stepped up. Countries like the UK and Germany have a vital need for foreign tech workers.
The idea of Brexit has so far, not led to any economic catastrophe. Funding for steps has been waxing strong against all the odds.
Whether the UK will still be able to attract top talent from foreign countries will be a significant test after Brexit. There will be a top consideration for people who are highly-skilled, while immigration for low-skilled applicants will be stamped down.
